Taking Control: Questioning the Role of Leadership

In a recent blog post on the New York Times, Fred Warmbier comments that leaders need to be active in building the capability of their company’s system and their employees for the sake of effective and efficient delegation, instead of thinking they are too important to be involved on the ground level so to speak. This is based on W. Edwards Deming’s concept of building the capability of the system.

Furthermore, he suggests that leaders are responsible for taking the time and effort to genuinely question the procedures and processes of their company’s systems as they were the ones who created such systems. They need to take this responsibility because other employees are often either too immersed in the system or too hesitant to question the boss’s decision to do so.
