Townsend, Court Grants Government Partial Summary Judgment on FBAR NonWillful Penalty (8/14/19)

The recent United States v. Ott ruling “granted the Government’s motion for partial summary judgment on the $10,000 nonwillful penalties on 2 separate accounts for each of 3 years.” The total of penalties was $60,000 (not including interest), plus additional nonpayment penalties. Reportedly, since the defendant did not report the accounts, she was liable to be penalized unless she could establish reasonable cause. Click here to read the full court judgement.
