This work examines some of the crucial questions pertaining to dower under Islamic law and Pakistani legal system. The most important questions that are discussed here include: the meaning, definition, and nature of dower; the various types, classification, and quantity of dower; the significance of prompt dower; whether dower is a condition for the validity of dower? And how is dower judicially interpreted by the higher Courts in Pakistan? In addition, selected cases are also critically evaluated.
